Combat/Tactical Vehicle (Lite) Photoluminescent Emergency Egress Lighting Kit™

The CTVL Kits are the latest in a series of DHi® Emergency Egress Lighting (EEL) kits originally developed in a highest national priority effort to help Mine Resistant, Ambush Protected (MRAP) vehicle operators survive Improvised Explosive Device (IED) attacks and other mishaps that left the operators trying to escape from an MRAP in low-light conditions. MRAP vehicles are armored fighting vehicles designed to survive IED attacks, mines and ambushes. DoD determined that MRAP exits and escape hatches needed to be positively marked or illuminated to aid emergency egress. After evaluation, DHi’s Emergency Egress Lighting™ Kits were selected for rapid field installation inside the troop compartment and driver/passenger sections of all MRAP vehicles in order to provide the warfighter with simple, highly reliable emergency markings. AfterGlow® PL products identify locations of door latches/openings, grab bars and emergency equipment such as fire extinguishers in the absence of daylight or electrically powered lighting. DoD messages to MRAP operators identified DHi as the sole producer of the MRAP PL products. The new CTVL kit includes one 25’ roll of 1” wide, adhesive-backed AfterGlow® brand photoluminescent tape, two hybrid photoluminescent/retroreflective AfterGlow® brand fire extinguisher labels, and 25 alcohol wipes for cleaning and preparing surfaces for installation and for cleaning the PL after installation.

High Performance, Photoluminescent Green, Aerospace Safety Paint

Photoluminescent Paint for Enhanced Propeller Visibility in Low-light Situations
Defense Holdings, Inc® (DHi) is now providing its patented AfterGlo® photoluminescent (glow in the dark) safety paint to the U.S. Navy, commercial aviators, domestic propeller manufacturers, and several military services outside the U.S. The aerospace and automotive-grade paint is applied to the tips of aircraft propeller blades, helicopter main and tail rotors, and other rotating objects to increase their visibility in low-light situations and thus help personnel to avoid injury or death from coming into contact with them. The initial application of this paint was on the Navy’s E-2C carrier aircraft to help save the lives of men and women who must work at night in the vicinity of rapidly spinning propeller blades and rotors on carrier flight decks where inadvertent contact can have deadly results. Potentially distracted by noisy, high-tempo flight operations, ground and flight personnel are inadvertently struck each year by propeller blades with inevitably tragic consequences. DHi’s solution combines a revolutionary, long-lasting, ultra-bright, non-radioactive photoluminescent paint to dramatically improve propeller blade. The application maximizes visibility, material adhesion, durability, wear-resistance and ease of installation without compromising propeller aerodynamic performance or aircraft detection. In battlefield conditions, greater visibility of propeller blades to ground personnel will help improve personal safety. Since the wavelength of the emitted light is outside of the range of IR Night Vision Goggles, use of the paint does not interfere with aircrew visibility or make the aircraft more vulnerable to hostile visual detection. The paint was developed under a Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR) contract as part of the Navy’s Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) program. For authorized government buyers, this paint is also available through the DLA under NSN 6850-01-558-3002. Material Data Safety Sheets (MSDSs) can be found on Defense Holdings Inc.'s website at: http://www.dh-inc.com/ag-msds
Photoluminescent Paint Usage on Helicopter Rotors
DHi’s photoluminescent paint application maximizes visibility, material adhesion, durability, wear-resistance and ease of installation without compromising rotor aerodynamic performance. At night, improvised landing zones (be it a vacant lot, road intersection, or some other cleared area) are an immediate attraction to people of all ages. Fire fighters, EMTs and police security personnel often have their hands full and even they can get distracted around the helicopter trying to keep order. People need sensory cues to warn them away from spinning rotor blades. Defense Holdings, Inc. demonstrates its AfterGlo® brand photoluminescent aviation safety paint on a Fairfax County, VA police helicopter.
Photoluminescence
Our safety-grade photoluminescent paint is inert, waterproof, non-toxic, non-radioactive and can be charged over and over again. A full charge producing 8 or more hours of luminance on DHi’s AfterGlow® photoluminescent paint is achieved by exposing the photoluminescent material to:
3-4 minutes of ultraviolet (black) light, or
7-8 minutes of direct sunlight, or
21-23 minutes of fluorescent light, or
24-26 minutes of incandescent light.

Military Fire Extinguisher Signs, 2 Count

Photoluminescence DHi's® AfterGlow® brand military fire extinguisher signs use strontium aluminate (SrAl), a much newer “Safety Grade” photoluminescent (PL), or "glow in the dark", phosphor that is non-toxic and non-radioactive, and retains its ability to be recharged and glow brightly for many, many years. Typically, the luminance life span is 30+ years for safety-grade strontium aluminate (SrAl) materials and only 3-4 years for novelty-grade zinc sulfide (ZnS) materials. A full charge of 8 or more hours of luminance of DHi's AfterGlow® photoluminescent military fire extinguisher sign is achieved by exposing the PL material to:
3-4 minutes of ultraviolet (black) light, or
7-8 minutes of direct sunlight, or
21-23 minutes of fluorescent light, or
24-26 minutes of incandescent light.
Retroreflectivity Most materials absorb light or scatter it in random directions, where retroreflective materials reflect light directly back to the light source by passing light through spherical glass optical elements onto a mirror, or by using cube corner reflectors, in order to optimize reflection and create a high visibility surface. Today’s prismatic retroreflective sheeting can return as much as 60% of the light to the viewer. Retroreflective materials are often used by emergency personnel like police officers, paramedics, and firefighters to make them more visible in dark or low light situations. These materials are also commonly used for path marking or to improve safety where traffic control is important, and visibility of normal signs may be

Low Level Exit Path Markings (LLEPM) are a relatively new type of Life Safety Improvement and consist of a mix of exit path markings at traditional heights and other markings located near the floor where they wouldn’t be hidden by a layer of dense smoke descending from the ceiling and where they could be seen by someone crawling along the floor. They can provide life-saving exit guidance to all residents, employees and tenants during an emergency evacuation.
